Announcing the Implementation of a Photo Radar System on Sheridan Blvd.
After more than a year of community engagement, the Town of Mountain View adopted our Comprehensive Plan in May of 2024. The community spoke urgently of the need to prioritize safety, with traffic and pedestrian safety emphasized as particularly important to a healthy future.
In response to these community calls for action, Mountain View has introduced a speed photo radar camera. Related Town Code, pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute § 42-4-110.5 can be found here.
Speed photo radar promotes safer driving habits, creates better pedestrian conditions on the most dangerous street in Town, increases traffic enforcement on Sheridan, and frees up the Police Department to focus on patrolling and responding to calls.
The speed limit along Sheridan Boulevard is 35 mph. Speeding along Sheridan Boulevard is a danger to the community. Our data supports that speeding is both a chronic problem and often extremely excessive. There is a high volume of daily speeders with some traveling at over double the speed limit. Additionally, road design is not currently conducive to safety for vehicles or pedestrians and there are high volumes of people and bikers crossing Sheridan Boulevard between Denver and Mountain View.
A warning period will be in effect for 60 days prior to the January 1st, 2025 deployment date.
Starting December 1st, 2024, the Town of Mountain View’s photo radar system will be providing warnings to drivers that are speeding and starting January 1st, 2025, citations will be given for speeding at the following corridor:
-
Southbound on Sheridan Boulevard and 41st Avenue.
