Trash/Recycling/Composting

The Town’s waste hauler company is Summit Waste.

All residential properties are serviced with trash and recycling pick-up. Households can opt in to weekly composting.

TRASH AND RECYCLING PICK-UP

  • Trash and recycling pick-up is on Thursdays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.Town-branded trash bin
  • Trash is every week.
  • Recycling is every other week. (See the town calendar for specific dates.)
  • Click here for the printable Summit calendar for the year.
  • The trash and recycling are picked up in the alleys for those properties that have alley access. (Those without alley access must bring their carts to the curbs.)

TRASH AND RECYCLING CARTS

  • Trash and recycling carts are standardized to comply with Summit's requirements, improve service, reduce litter, and create a more unified appearance.
  • Personal carts and non-Summit bags or carts are not picked up.
  • Paper or other "compostable" yard waste bags will not be picked up. They must be in the appropriate carts to be picked up.
  • Town-owned or Summit-provided carts are provided free of charge to residents. Each property is provided with a single large, 96-gallon cart for their trash.
  • The carts are Town property and should not be moved without the written permission of the Town.
  • Households that request smaller carts will be provided smaller carts (three sizes are offered.)

HOW TO

  • Please have your carts out by 7:00 a.m.
  • picture of hands holding trash bagTrash should be contained in secure, lidded Summit bins or bags. If you regularly have more trash than fits securely in a single 96-gallon cart, please let the Town know so that you can be provided with another cart. Loose trash becomes litter.
  • If you only occasionally have more trash than fits securely in a single 96-gallon cart, please use the Summit-branded bags for your overflow trash and place it beside your cart in the alley.
  • You can obtain more of the Summit-branded blue bags by reaching out to Public Works or Town Hall. These bags are free to residents, although the Town pays a fee for them.
  • Please do not bag your recycling.
  • Click here for directions about what can be recycled and how.

OPTIONAL LARGE ITEM PICK UP - AN "AS NEEDED" SERVICE

  • For large or additional item pick-ups (that do not fit into trash carts), please call Summit directly.
  • The representative will get the description of the items you need help with and will then give you a reasonable price quote.
  • This service is designed to help you dispose of difficult to dispose of items such as mattresses and couches.
  • Community members pay Summit directly over the phone with a credit card.
  • Acces this service by calling Summit at (303) 500-1422, and selecting Option 1.

OPTIONAL OPT-IN COMPOST PROGRAM

  • Use this form to express interest, learn more, or sign up.
  • Weekly compost pick-up will be billed at $22.00 monthly.
  • The first pick-up for the new composting program is Friday, May 3rd, 2024.
  • Households that opt in will be provided with a free, 32-gallon bin for composting.photo of hands holding soil
  • Place your compost bin in the alley with your trash bins on Thursday nights or early (7:00 a.m.) Friday morning.
  • Composting is every week on Fridays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • If households would like to share a bin, they can work together to arrange that. Just let us know which address to send the bill to! (We will let you take it from there.)
  • Pick up is via a smaller 11-yard truck, but still in the alleys.
  • Click here for a list of what can and cannot be composted.
  • Click here for a list of acceptable composting bags.
  • Summit Waste picks up the kitchen and/or yard waste and uses a commercial compost facility (A1Organics and Dad's Landfill) to process the waste into soil.
  • Seasonally, soil created out of the composted waste will be returned to participating residents, proportionate to the amount collected Town-wide. Soil will be dropped off at a centralized location (Town Hall property) and participants may drive through to pick up their portion. Participants will be notified ahead of time.
